The WHY Encounter is committed to initiating, encouraging and mobilizing Christians to fast and pray on a continual basis for individual people by name, in their cities and communities.
The WHY Encounter follows up this focused prayer commitment with the sharing of the Gospel message through the mass distribution of the WHY AM I ON THIS EARTH? book. |

| George Derksen’s vision of the WHY AM I ON THIS EARTH? book was inspired by a sermon in 1975 by Pastor H.H. Barber (Calvary Temple, Winnipeg) speaking on the impact of the printed word on society. |

| The first WHY AM I ON THIS EARTH? book was produced to use as a follow-up for the enquirers at the Pavilion of Promise at Expo ’86. |

| First WHY Encounter in Winnipeg and area – 130,000 books delivered – churches delivering in their communities and people delivering to their neighbours. |

WHY book delivery in Medicine Hat – every home received a book.

| Student Mission Advance conference in Hamilton, Ontario – young people from across Canada delivered 10,000 books door-to-door throughout the community during the conference – books also went into the local jail and George Derksen given opportunity to address the inmates. |

STATEMENT OF FAITH
WHY ENCOUNTER, INC.
THE BIBLE
We believe that the Bible alone, and the Bible in its entirety, is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, inerrant in all that it teaches, and therefore absolutely authoritative as the only infallible rule for faith and life.
GOD
We believe that there is but one living and true God, the Creator, Preserver and Governor of all things. We further believe that the one God exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, all three having the same nature, attributes and perfections.
JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, perfectly obeyed the law of God, died on the cross as an atonement for sin and rose again bodily on the third day for our justification. He ascended to the Father’s right hand where He now reigns and intercedes for His redeemed.
SALVATION
We believe that God in mercy and grace redeems all who repent of their sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation, justifying them through faith in the Saviour and giving them new life by the Holy Spirit. Believers are kept by the power of God unto eternal salvation and are called to a life of discipleship and holiness in joyful obedience to Jesus Christ.
THINGS TO COME
We believe that at a day and hour known only to God, our Lord Jesus Christ shall come again personally, bodily, visibly, gloriously, to consummate his Kingdom of righteousness and peace. We believe in the resurrection of the unrighteous unto eternal punishment and the resurrection of the righteous unto eternal glory in the new heaven and the new earth. Come Lord Jesus, come.
